Josh Himan is the Founder and CEO of Business Valuation Advisors, Inc. and has more than 15 years of experience analyzing privately held businesses, business acquisitions, and financial performance. His work focuses on business valuation, Quality of Earnings, transaction due diligence, ownership matters, and financial advisory assignments.

Josh’s interest in valuation began when he left the military and began evaluating businesses to acquire. Faced with conflicting valuation opinions and significant personal capital at risk, he became determined to understand how privately held companies are actually valued, financed, and acquired. That experience developed into a career focused on helping business owners, buyers, attorneys, lenders, and advisors make better-informed financial decisions.

He holds the Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA®), Business Certified Appraiser (BCA®), Certified Machinery & Equipment Appraiser (CMEA®), and Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst (FMVA®) credentials, among others. Josh also holds graduate degrees in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University and Finance from The George Washington University.

His perspective is grounded in both professional analysis and real-world investing. Over his career, Josh has evaluated thousands of privately held businesses and has personally experienced the financial risks and rewards associated with business ownership and acquisitions.

Alex Melesko, CFA®

Alex Melesko, CFA®, is a quantitative finance professional with extensive experience in data analysis, investment strategy, financial modeling, and institutional investment research. His background combines rigorous quantitative methods with fundamental financial analysis.

Prior to joining Business Valuation Advisors, Alex served as a Senior Data Scientist at Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s largest hedge funds. He has also worked as a quantitative analyst for a mutual fund and as a corporate financial analyst, giving him experience across investment management, financial analysis, and corporate decision-making.

Throughout his career, Alex has developed analytical systems, investment processes, and quantitative techniques designed to turn complex financial information into practical insights. He has also taught finance and quantitative concepts as an adjunct professor.

Alex holds graduate degrees in Computational Finance and Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from the University of Connecticut.

Service has shaped Josh Himan’s approach to both life and business. After earning his undergraduate degree in finance, Josh joined the United States Marine Corps and deployed to Afghanistan, where he was seriously wounded in combat. The experience—and the sacrifice of fellow Marines with whom he served—left a lasting commitment to service, accountability, and doing work that matters.
